WSL round up and latest table: Chelsea earn thrilling win over Arsenal, Man City remain unbeaten

Maria Thorisdottir's 85th minute strike earned Chelsea a thrilling victory over Arsenal, which means Manchester City are now outright leaders at the top of the Women's Super League.

In the big match of the WSL weekend, Danielle van de Donk gave Arsenal a ninth minute lead after a clever pass from striker Vivianne Miedema but Chelsea recovered and levelled soon after half-time. Beth England turned the ball in from a Fran Kirby cross and just five minutes from time, substitute Thorisdottir curled in a stunning goal to condemn Arsenal to their first defeat of the season.

As a result of the victory, Chelsea are now one point ahead of Arsenal and trail City by just two points.

City kept their 100% record with a convincing 3-0 win over Birmingham City at home. Keira Walsh put the hosts ahead in the first half but they performed much better in the second half. Tessa Wullaert turned in a cross three minutes into the second half and 10 minutes from time, Lee Geum-min's finish ensured victory.

City have now kept four clean sheets in the league from four matches and have won their first seven games of the season in all competitions.

In the battle of the two promoted sides, Manchester United beat Tottenham 3-0 away from home to record their second consecutive victory in the WSL. Kirsty Hanson's deflected shot gave United the lead in the first half, which was then added to by an own goal from Tottenham defender Ashleigh Neville and Jane Ross' effort in stoppage time.

But just minutes from the end, Lauren James, who was named player of the match, was sent off with a second yellow card after a collision just outside the United box.

Jade Moore played a starring role for Reading as they defeated Everton 3-2 at home. The first 23 minutes saw four goals shared between the two sides but substitute Lisa-Marie Utland's header in the 70th minute proved to be the winner for Reading.

West Ham kept Brighton without a win with a 3-1 victory. Martha Thomas scored the opener from close range for the Hammers, which was then followed by a penalty and a brilliant strike from Alisha Lehmann. Megan Connolly scored a consolation goal for Brighton, who now have two draws and two defeats.

Both Liverpool and Bristol City remain winless after they played out a 1-1 draw at Prenton Park. Ebony Salmon gave Bristol the lead with a cross turned shot from the right hand side. But Melissa Lawley's first goal for Liverpool ensured the home side picked up their first point in the league this year.
