Former Arsenal and England defender Alex Scott wins RTS Sports Commentator of the Year award

Former Arsenal and England defender Alex Scott has won a Royal Television Society award for Sports Commentator of the Year.

Scott was specifically acknowledged for her work during the Women's World Cup last summer where she worked for the BBC alongside presenter Gabby Logan, fellow Gunner Jordan Nobbs and former men's player Dion Dublin.

There was not an awards ceremony due to the coronavirus outbreak, but Scott was announced as the winner on social media.

The RTS awards tweeted: "The Sports Presenter, Commentator or Pundit award goes to @AlexScott for delivering “immense knowledge of the game” in a “confident and concise analysis” – congratulations Alex! #RTSAwards"

Scott retweeted the announcement and added: "Erm... so this just happened. No awards gala this evening due to the circumstances but pretty cool to be recognised in this way by @RTS_media ThankYou!

"I just had some homemade soup, think I need to up my celebrations."
