Forward Kirsty Hanson signs new deal with Manchester United until 2021
Scotland forward Kirsty Hanson has signed a new contract with Manchester United in a deal that will keep her at the club until 2021.
The 22 year-old joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2018 and played a major role in helping her side achieve promotion to the Women’s Super League last season.
And now the former Doncaster and Sheffield player will remain in red until the end of next season as Man United boss Casey Stoney looks to build on their first campaign in the top flight.
Speaking to the club website, Hanson said: "It’s really exciting to sign a new deal and continue my development at Manchester United.
"It’s been a dream to come back to the club where it all started for me and I’m really enjoying my journey here. We have such a great group of hard working players who all want the best for each other and that inspires me every single day.
"I’m still young and I know I can develop further under the coaching staff, so I’m really looking forward to next season. I just want to be back out on the pitch playing the game that I love."
Manager Stoney added: "Kirsty is a fantastic talent who has contributed so much to the team over the last two years.
"She works extremely hard and is constantly improving; a senior call-up for Scotland this season is testament to the work she puts in every day here at United. As a young player I also know there is much more to come from her and I’m looking forward to seeing her continue to develop on and off the pitch."
Man United finished fourth at the end of their first season in the WSL but will be looking to close the gap to the top three of Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal in time for the start of the 2020/21 campaign.
The WSL season was finished prematurely due to the coronavirus pandemic, with a points-per-game ratio used to decide the final placings.
Chelsea were awarded the title while Liverpool were relegated to the Women’s Championship.
