German international and Bayern Munich midfielder Nicole Rolser has announced her retirement. 

The 28 year-old, who has made 40 appearances for Bayern, shared the news on social media. 

She said: "I will end my active career at the end of this season.

"For me a very nice but also intense time comes to an end. I consider myself extremely happy that I was able to pursue my hobby as a profession for years. 

“I am infinitely grateful for everything I have been able to experience in these years and how many great people I have met.”

The star made her way up the youth level ranks for her national side and has earned two caps for the senior team. 

She has played a total of 108 games in the Bundesliga and had a stint in the Women’s Super League with Liverpool and won the title in 2013 and 2014.
