Golfer Heather MacRae set to play first tournament since cancer surgery

Scottish golfer Heather MacRae is scheduled to return to action this weekend just two months after she underwent surgery for cervical cancer.

She was diagnosed with the illness back in March but incredibly kept playing to an extremely high level and got her reward with victory in the Women's PGA Professional Championship only two weeks before her surgery.

And now she is to compete in the PGA Fourball Championship final in Surrey - something she is playing down despite her condition.

MacRae said: "I've been cautious. I don't want anything to knock me back.

"I didn't hit a driver until a couple of days ago but I have practised my short game. It's more just feeling tired that gets me. I don't feel stressed about it because it's fourball."

The competition kicks off on Wednesday and will conclude on Friday, with Farleigh Golf Club the venue and a total prize fund of £33,250.
