Golfer Esther Henseleit wins Ladies European Tour Order of Merit award after hitting course record

Golf star Esther Henseleit has won the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit award for the first time after hitting a course record in her win at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open.

Sweden's Julia Engstrom was seven shots ahead of German Henseleit going into the final round of the tournament but the 20-year-old hit an eight-under-par 64 to take the title.

Engstorm hit a 74 to finish third and India's Aditi Ashok finished one shot behind Henseleit to take second place.

The Order of Merit is calculated by giving players points depending on where they finish in all the different competitions in the tour.

As well as her Merit award the German was named Ladies European Tour rookie of the year.

Henseleit said: "To close the season with a win is the best feeling I could imagine.

"To be the Order of Merit winner and rookie of the year is just unbelievable."

The golfer became the first German to ever win both awards and is only the third player to win both in the same season. England's Laura Davies won both in 1985 and Spain's Carlota Ciganda won in 2012.
