Groundbreaking football club Lewes FC near fundraising target of £34,000 for infrastructure improvements

Fan-owned football club Lewes FC have nearly reached their target of £34,000 to fund new infrastructure for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Lewes pride themselves on being the only team in the world to pay their men’s and women’s sides the same, achieving unprecedented gender equality.

The men’s team currently sit in the seventh tier of English football, while the women kept their second tier status despite a difficult season which saw them finish eighth out of 11.

Yet despite their impressive club ethos, a number of fundamentals needed to be dealt with such as the 50-year old floodlights at their ground The Dripping Pan, as well as improvements to the pitch, bar and toilets.

As a result, the club released a video in mid-June calling for contributions and set an ambitious target of £34,000.

They also set out a number of rewards for contributors which were:

  • £20 - PRIZE DRAW - MEGAN RAPINOE SIGNED SHIRT
  • £50 - YOUR NAME ON A MATCHDAY POSTER
  • £100 - THE SHIRT OFF OUR BACKS
  • £250 - STORYTIME OR INTERVIEW TIME WITH LEWES FC PLAYERS
  • £1,000 - LIFETIME OWNERSHIP
  • £2,000 - FLOODLIGHT NAMING RIGHTS

With just one day left, the club are currently £2,329 short of their target and so general manager Maggie Murphy has attempted to stir up some last minute donations via social media.

She said: "Last push everyone! We are 95% there!

"If you wanted a chance to win that Rapinoe signed shirt, then you have just 1 day left! (though I think it kinda looks good on me so it might go "missing") ."
