Gymnastics star Simone Biles has hit back at her governing body after they sent well wishes on her birthday.

Biles turned 23 yesterday and US Gymnastics shared a video montage of the world champion gymnast.

They captioned the video: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the most decorated gymnast of all time, @simonebiles ! We know you will only continue to amaze us and make history!"

Biles retweeted the message and wrote: "How about you amaze me and do the right thing... have an independent investigation."

The athlete has urged US Gymnastics to carry out an internal independent investigation into the abuse carried out by doctor Larry Nassar.

Nassar has been sentenced to 175 years in prison after he sexually assaulted over 250 gymnasts but the governing body has never investigated the incident.

Biles has said she was one of the athletes that Nassar abused.

A report written after a Congressional investigation in 2019 found that the FBI, US Gymnastics, US Olympic committee and Michigan state all had the opportunity to stop Nassar but 'failed to do so'.
