GB gymnastic star Becky Downie says athletes will be 'hungry' to get back to competition following cancelled events

Gymnastics' Becky Downie says athletes are going to be 'hungry' to get back to competition when the season resumes.

This follows the cancellation of the Gymnastics World Cup and the Artistic British Championships due to coronavirus.

The 28 year-old World Championship medalist wrote on Twitter: "Can’t quite believe how 2020 is shaping out but it’s better to be safe.

"Whenever season eventually restarts it’s going to be pure (fire) because there will be a lot of hungry athletes ready for action."

British Gymnastics CEO Jane Allen said: "This was a very difficult decision and we share the disappointment of members, gymnasts, coaches, clubs and volunteers. However, our number one priority is the health and wellbeing of the whole gymnastics family.

" We hope removing the pressure of preparing for these events will allow clubs to more effectively manage the challenges they are facing."
