Great Britain women's hockey have qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after defeating Chile 2-1 in the second-leg qualifier tie at Lee Valley in London. 

GB forward Tess Howard scored the opening goal after sweeping past Chile’s defence in the penalty area.

This was shortly followed by Laura Unsworth's reverse hit ball which flew past Chilean goalkeeper Claudia Schuler.

Chile bounced back with Francisca Parra making several attacking runs butthe GB defence remained solid.

After half-time, GB kept their composure as Chile made several attempts to force the ball down the centre of the pitch. 

The away side had their first shot on goal but world No 1 goalkeeper Maddie Hinch made herself large to save well. 

During the final minutes, Denise Krimerman managed to pull one back for the visitors.

GB captain and defender Hollie Pearne-Webb said afterwards: "It's obviously something that has been a massive aim for us for quite some time and I am very proud of every single one of the girls. It wasn’t pretty at times as always but really excited now for the next eight months ahead.

"We’ve made some big strides with a bit of a roller-coaster over the last three and a bit years but now we have sort of settled. We have got things we need to work on in our defence in our connections going forward but it’s really exciting now."
