Ireland hockey women come away with a goalless draw in first leg of Olympic qualifiers

Ireland hockey women walked away with a goalless draw against Canada in the first leg of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifier at the Donnybrook stadium.

Anna O'Flanagan and Nicola Daly started off strongly for the Irish but were unable to apply that to the scoresheet.

Both sides battled but neither were able to find the back of the net. Canadian goalkeeper Sarah McManus saved well on several occasions from a strong Ireland attack.

Canada's press remained consistent throughout the game which forced Ireland's defence to make mistakes.

In the crucial last minutes, both teams desperately tried to get the ball in their attacking circles but couldn't find the opening to go for goal.

Both sides will battle it out again tomorrow at the Donnybrook in their last opportunity to qualify for next summers Olympic Games.
