Lyon puts entire sports staff on 'partial unemployment' due to season postponement

Olympique Lyonnais have announced they will be putting all their sports staff on 'partial unemployment' until further notice.

The decision comes after it was decided last week that the French domestic campaign would not resume until April 2 at the earliest.

However, that date is likely to be extended after the English governing bodies stretched the suspension of their season until April 30 in a meeting on Thursday.

In a statement on the Lyon website, the club said: "Given the measures taken by the authorities to combat the spread of the Covid-19, which have led to the suspension of all competitions and training, Olympique Lyonnais, like other Ligue 1 clubs, can reports it has put all of its sports staff on partial unemployment until further notice.

"Olympique Lyonnais have also put part of its administrative employees on partial unemployment. The other employees have been placed on "telework" and for those whose physical presence is necessary for the continuation of their activity, they continue to operate at the Groupama Stadium site in compliance with strict prevention measures against the coronavirus."

It is not yet clear how the measures apply to the women's team, who have won the French domestic league for the last 13 seasons and the Champions League in each of the last four campaigns.
