Manchester City look to get Women's Super League title hopes back on track in Brighton clash

The Women's Super League is heading towards its final weekend round of matches before the three-week Christmas break.

Here we continue our daily round-up of another busy programme.

Next up it's the side that had their title hopes severely dented last weekend taking on a visiting team who have won just one league game so far this season.

Manchester City v Brighton

In what looks increasingly like a three-way race for the WSL title, Man City have now been beaten by both their rivals in Arsenal and Chelsea.

Despite leading until the final 11 minutes at Kingsmeadow, Nick Cushing's side were thoroughly outplayed for much of the game.

Psychologically, you have to think suffering defeats to both of their main title contenders is something which will take some time to overcome.

However, a home game against Brighton could be exactly what they need to regain their confidence.

The south coast side have picked up just six points from their opening nine matches, scoring seven and conceding 17.

Hope Powell's outfit showed signs of improvement in their 2-2 draw with Reading, but then struggled to find the same creative spark as they limped to a 1-0 defeat at Spurs last time out.

Pauline Bremer has looked like the danger woman for City so far this season, so Brighton will need to figure out a way of keeping her quiet if they are hoping to get something from the game.

Meanwhile, The Seagulls are yet to score away from home so far in this WSL campaign, so it will likely be a backs to the wall, defensive approach from Powell.

The match kicks off at 12:30pm on Sunday and will be available to watch on the FA Player app.
