Manchester City's Caroline Weir hopeful club can secure Women's Super League title when football returns

Manchester City forward Caroline Weir is eager for the Women's Super League to return as her side look to close in on a first title since 2016.

Weir, who set up the pivotal equaliser in The Sky Blues' 3-3 draw with Chelsea before the season was halted, remains optimistic they can clinch the league title despite it ultimately being in Chelsea's hands.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, she said: "It's a shame really because we had a lot of momentum going into this last bit of the season, an important bit with all the big games.

"So it's unfortunate, but we're keeping ticking over and when we do come back hopefully we can go from where we left off and continue the title race.

"It is exciting and it was definitely going to be a good run out until the end of the season."

The FA recently revealed it remains confident that the WSL can be concluded by early August despite the coronavirus pandemic.
