Sophia Flörsch makes history as first female in FIA Formula 3 after signing for Campos Racing for 2020

German driver Sophia Flörsch has signed a contract with Spanish racing Side Campos Racing for the 2020 season and become the first female to sign for the series.

The 19 year-old will line up alongside male drivers Alex Peroni and Alessio Deledda as the team begin their bid to better their 10th place finish in the 2019 campaign.

Her Formula 3 debut will come only 18 months after a horiffic crash at the 2018 Macau Grand Prix which required much surgery.

She then made a storming return following a full recovery and finished seventh in the Formula Regional European Championship last year and was also awarded the Laureus World Sports Award for World Comeback of the Year 2019.

She said: "I am very happy to be competing in the FIA F3 Championship together with Campos Racing,”

“It is going to be my first season in the actual Formula 3 car."

The young driver knows she has a lot to learn and is keen to get going.

"Without any test days I have to learn a lot, but I am looking forward to competing against the best drivers.

“For me, it’s important to get better each race weekend, work together with the team and have fun. It’s going to be a great year. The experience of Adrian Campos and his team will for sure help me,” she said.
