WATCH: W Series celebrates International Women's Day by releasing a special video

The W Series has released a video featuring its drivers to mark International Women's Day.

The video opens by highlighting the fact that the last woman to compete in the F1 was Lella Lombardi in 1976, 44 years ago.

It then shows the women training for their races and highlights inaugural series winner Jamie Chadwick's triumph.

One clip shows driver Alice Powell crashing in a race and she says: "If a female makes a mistake I feel like it's less accepted."

Chadwick adds: "I want to be in F1 purely on merit and purely because I deserve to be there."

The second W Series gets underway in May.
