Netball New Zealand cancels final round of ANZ Premiership

Netball New Zealand have cancelled the final round of the ANZ Premiership.

The matches will all be declared draws due to the ever-changing Covid-19 situation throughout the country.

The final round had no baring on the placings ahead of the Final Series later this month.

All teams will be awarded two points for their matches which were due to take place from August 14-17.

It comes after Auckland was placed on Alert Level 3 and the rest of the country on Alert Level 2 after a new coronavirus outbreak.

Netball New Zealand chief executive Jennie Wyllie said: "Decisions like these are never easy to make but we felt it was in the best interest of safety and equity for all teams that we didn't contest the last round.

"There was no material impact on the placings heading into the ANZ Premiership Final Series so it made sense to declare these games drawn.

"We have been fortunate to play as many weeks of netball, in front of live crowds, for as long as we have.

“But now is the time for us to play our part in keeping the country safe and we will be reviewing future decisions over the coming days.”

She also added that they will make a decision on the Final Series taking place on August 23 when they have more guidance on the current situation.
