Australian Suncorp Super Netball club Adelaide Thunderbirds have been fined $100,000 for breaching the salary cap during the 2019 season. 

They were fined after chief executive of Netball South Australia Bronwyn Klei found the players were being given payments and vehicles above their approved contracts, which exceeded their 2019 salary cap by more than $22,000.

They have been told to pay $10,000 immediately and that the remaining $90,000 has been suspended and won't have to be paid if there is no repeat of the infraction over the next three years. 

Super Netball chief executive Chris Symington said that the club have been 'rightfully fined'.

"They also have been put on notice that further fines will apply if any issues relating to total player payments arise in the future," he said.

"The rules that govern our game are the backbone of a fair and equitable competition.

"I would like to acknowledge Thunderbirds management for coming forward when they realised there was an issue and their co-operation throughout our investigation."

Klei added: "Of course, we accept the fine which I think is appropriate given the facts involved.

"Good organisations learn from their mistakes and we can now go forward, totally focused on the 2020 netball season."

The Adelaide Thunderbirds first match in the Suncorp Super Netball League will be on May 3 where they will face the GIANTS.
