Eleanor Cardwell re-signs for Manchester Thunder as they look to retain their Women’s Superleague title

Manchester Thunder’s and England international Eleanor Cardwell has re-signed for the side ahead of the Vitality Netball Superleague season in 2020.

The reigning champions have signed the shooter for a two year contract.

The 24-year-old grew up in the North East and spent much of her youth working her way up the ranks to secure her place with Thunder. She stayed at the club for five years before moving to Severn Stars for a year.

Cardwell was a key player in the WSL final last year against Wasps. Director of Thunder Karen Greig said: “What an end to the 2019 season from Cardwell as she showed beyond any doubt how integral she was to our title-winning team. She grew throughout the season for us and developed key partnerships within the attacking unit.

“I’m so happy to have such an influential and calm key moment player back on board and looking forward to building further with her into the coming season.”

The 16-capped Roses player is the latest signing for Thunder who will join other re-signings Laura Malcolm, Kathryn Turner and Ashleigh Neal.

Thunder will play Wasps in the season opener in February next year at the Arena Birmingham.
