Signings for Sirens, Thunder and Bath ahead of the Vitality Superleague
The Vitality Superleague signings continue as Strathclyde Sirens, Manchester Thunder and Team Bath all add to their squad.
Emma Barrie will feature in the Sirens squad for the 2020 season. The 17-year-old will bring a lot of experience after competing for Scotland in the 2017 Youth World Cup and in the recent World Cup in Liverpool.
The 6ft 4in shooter said: “Being a Siren means passion, commitment and being a role model to inspire young girls coming through the ranks within the Scottish set-up.”
Centre-court player Caroline O’Hanlon is set to return to reigning champion club Manchester Thunder for her third consecutive season.
She captained Thunder during the 2019 season and the Northern Ireland side during the recent world cup.
Director of Netball at Thunder said: “Caroline is a key signing for us and I’m delighted to have her back with us for another year.
“The last two seasons she has really become a lynchpin for us – the speed and control she gives us in attack can be unstoppable. I can’t wait to work with her again and see her partnership with Ash Neal develop.”
Also on the move is Fionnuala Toner who has signed for Blue & Gold Team Bath ahead of their Superleague campaign.
Defender Toner was vice-captain of the Northern Ireland side in the summer’s world cup. She has 81 caps and has represented her country at the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games.
She has previously played at Team Northumbria and London Pulse.
Head coach Anna Stembridge said: "Fi is a great signing for Team Bath and she will bring so much to the squad this season. She is versatile, very good at winning ball and a fearless character on court which I love.
“She’s also very experienced and knows what it takes to be the best you can be against world-class opposition.”
In the opening fixture of the Superleague, Sirens will face bottom of the table London Pulse whilst Manchester Thunder and Wasps will battle it out. Bath will take on Loughborough Lightning in February at the Arena Birmingham.
