A triple signing for Wasps Netball and a new signing for Strathclyde Sirens

Reigning champions Wasps Netball have secured Hannah Knights, Jade Clarke and Rachel Dunn for the 2020 Vitality Superleague season.

Knights is set to captain the side for the second season running whilst Clarke will take the vice-captaincy role.

Four-time Superleague champion Knights, who plays in defence will re-join the Midlands side after having experience back in 2016 with Surrey Storm.

Clarke is Red Roses’ most capped player with 169 appearances. She has played with several different teams in her career including Loughborough Lightning, Northern Mystics and Adelaide Thunder.

36 year-old Rachel Dunn will be competing in her 15th Superleague season after previously spending six years with Storm before moving to Wasps in 2016.

The trio are Wasps' first signings ahead of the season and in the opening clash of the Vitality Superleague they will face Manchester Thunder.

Gia Abernethy, right in the Suncorp League against NSW Swifts (Zimbio)

In another return to Strathclyde Sirens Australia’s Gia Abernethy has re-signed for the side.

As well as being part of Scotland’s only professional team in the league, she also brings experience from the Australian Suncorp Super League where she represented Adelaide Thunderbirds.

Abernethy said: “I can’t wait to build on the relationships formed last season and embrace the challenges that come with a second season in the Vitality Netball Superleague.

“This is the team that has given me the opportunity to play netball in a new country. It’s put me outside my comfort zone, helped challenge my character and grow as a person. I want to perform well for the Strathclyde Sirens because of that.”

Sirens face newly franchised club London Pulse in the opening match of the Vitality Superleague in February at the Arena Birmingham.
