Vitality Superleague round-up: defending champions Manchester Thunder narrowly beat Wasps
The Vitality Superleague began again today and saw 557 goals in a thrilling spectacle of netball.
Here's a round-up of all the action.
Defending champions Manchester Thunder secured a 62-55 victory in their clash with Wasps.
The teams both put on strong performances but Thunder just edged it to get their season off to a perfect start.
It looked like a day for narrow victories as London Pulse started with a narrow 53-51 win over Strathclyde Sirens.
Pulse's Sigrid Burger scored the first goal of the new season and their attack proved too much for the Sirens.
Surrey Storm claimed a one point win over Celtic Dragons, the score there 44-43.
Storm's Karyn Bailey was the match's leading goal scorer as she slotted 31.
Meanwhile, after the first quarter in the Saracens Mavericks' match they were down 17-11 to Severn Stars but by half-time they had clawed back a 34-25 lead.
The Marvericks found their stride in the third and fourth quarters to run out 70-49 winners.
Player of the match Razia Quashie said afterwards: "From last season to this season, the massive change is that we all believe in each other."
Lastly, Team Bath convincingly beat Loughborough Lightning 72-58.
Loughborough's Natalie Panagarry was injured during the match with their Director of Netball Sara Bayman saying: "We don't really know at the minute, we're hoping that it's nothing serious."
