Vitality Superleague: Severn Stars and Manchester Thunder pick up wins in round four
Round four of the Vitality Superleague started yesterday with Severn Stars and Manchester Thunder both picking up victories.
And there was plenty to savour, with 215 goals scored. Here's a round-up of the action.
Defending champions Manchester Thunder continued their perfect start as they beat Surrey Storm 60-42 away.
Ahead after each quarter, they claimed a comfortable win, with Eleanor Caldwell scoring 29 as the match's top scorer.
Meanwhile, Severn Stars picked up their first win of the season as they beat Wasps 59-54.
Stars' Georgia Rowe shone as she scored 47 for her team.
Last year's runners-up Wasps have now lost three games out of four.
The Superleague was one of the few leagues to go ahead this weekend as most sport fell victim to coronavirus.
Stars' Nia Jones said her side were excited to be playing as they didn't know when the next game would be.
"It feels a bit like we're in a TV show or a movie. I travelled from Cardiff to Worcester and the roads were dead.
"All eyes are on us but we have followed government guidelines and the venue is happy for our game to go ahead. We don't know when we'll get to play together again so we had to play like this is our last game," she told the BBC.
The last three matches of this round will take place tomorrow night. Loughborough Lightning v Saracens Maverick's will be held behind closed doors.
While Celtic Dragons v Strathclyde Sirens and Team Bath v London Pulse are going ahead as planned.
