NSW Swifts star Maddy Turner to miss out on opening Suncorp Super Netball games due to injury

New South Wales Swifts defender Maddy Turner is set to miss out on the opening fixtures of the Suncorp Super Netball after sustaining an ankle injury.

The 24 year-old Australian Diamond is due to miss the first four games of the 2020 season after it was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Head coach Briony Akle said: "Maddy has become one of the finest defenders in the world in recent years and she is a key leader for us.

"But I have a lot of faith in the players we’ve brought in and Lauren Moore has played plenty of top games at this level so she knows what needs to be done.

"Last year we had front-liners missing for almost every round that we played but we made it work and I know we have plenty of ability to cover for Maddy while she gets right.

“Our medical team will be assessing how she is tracking in the next couple of weeks and we hope to have her back soon after that.”

The season-opener games have recently been relocated due to border restrictions and will now all be played in Queensland.

The NSW Swifts will take on GIANTS Netball in round 1 at Queensland's Nissan Arena on August 2.
