Olympic hockey champion Alex Danson returns to GB set-up after prolonged head injury

Olympic hockey champion Alex Danson has confirmed that she will be returning to the Great Britain set-up after an 18-month long head injury.

The 34 year-old hit her head against a wall in 2018 and suffered a long-term concussion.

She wrote on her Instagram: "I am delighted that I am able to return to our centralised program. To the place I've spent more time in my life, than I have at home.

"The last 18 months have tested me to perhaps my limits, with my health, my isolation and inability to do the things I used to do with such ease. I'm still not 100% but with time running out before the Tokyo Olympics now is my last chance to see what I can do."

Danson is set to return to training on Monday with the rest of the players.

She was part of the historic teams when GB women won gold at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and bronze at London 2012.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games start on July 24.
