Caster Semenya has made her first track appearance since last summer, winning the 300m in a national record time at the Newton Classic Shootout event in Johannesburg.

The double Olympic 800m champion finished in 36.78 seconds at the event which sees South African Olympians compete against high school students.

Semenya has not raced for six months after the IAAF changed their rulings over testosterone levels meaning the 29-year-old cannot race above 400m without testosterone-reducing medication.

The new rules mean that Semenya, who has differences of sexual development (DSD), is deemed as having a "competitive advantage" due to her elevated levels of testosterone.

This meant she missed the chance to defend her 800m world title in Doha last year and has since signed for South African football club JVW for whom is hoping to make her debut later this year.

However, she has admitted she still has her sights set on a place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and is aiming for a spot in the 200m.

"Track and field, you will still see my face," said Semenya. "That is all I can say for now."

In order to book her ticket to Tokyo she will have to shave over a second off her personal best 24.26 seconds to hit the qualifying time of 22.80s.
