Donald Trump teases trip to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and gives Government backing to Los Angeles 2028

President Donald Trump has hinted that he may make an appearance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after receiving an invitation from Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe.

The 'Leader of the free world' was speaking at a conference where he also signed an agreement assuring American Government support for the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics in Los Angeles.

He dubbed the Games a "big deal" adding "we're going to give them tremendous support. You need the support of the Federal Government to make it really work.

"From the day I took office I've done everything in my power to make sure LA achieved the winning bid," said Trump.

Speaking of his potential Tokyo plans, he said: "We'll make that determination. We haven't made it yet.

"We might. We're going to try if we can."

Travelling to Tokyo could be potentially risky in the light of the coronavirus situation and would also be a break in Trump's campaign ahead of this year's Presidential election campaign.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics start on July 25 and will run until August 8.
