Paralympic rower Ellen Buttrick has decided to be a volunteer for the NHS following the postponement of Tokyo 2020. 

The 24 year-old, who competes in the PR3 Mixed 4+, is one of the 750,000 NHS volunteers who have signed up to help fight the coronavirus pandemic. 

The two-time World Champion told ITV News: "I signed up to do the phone calls because I am visually impaired so I can't drive or anything. 

"I will stop my session if needs be and handle it that way so people don't get lonely. Maybe I can give them some little fitness tips for being at home."

The International Olympic Committee announced last week that the Games will now begin on July 23 in 2021. 

She added: "My way of coping with Tokyo being postponed was to get onto volunteering because that's how I deal with things.

"We (athletes) are used to being isolated because we go on a lot of training camps, we go and train, we then go sit on our bed for the rest of the day and the cycle continues. So I'm used to not having so much to do and not a lot of people to talk to."
