Paralympics see 'unprecedented' demand as 3.1m people apply for tickets with only 2.3m available

There has been an 'unprecedented' demand for Paralympic tickets for the Tokyo 2020 Games.

To date, 3.1 million people have requested tickets with only 2.3 million available. This is three times the amount requested for London 2012 at a similar stage.

The International Paralympic Committee president Andrew Parsons said: "The demand for tickets is unprecedented. We have some very good numbers on ticket sales. This shows the appetite that Japanese society has for the Games next year.

The Olympics have already sold 3.57 million tickets out of 7.8 million available.
