Czech tennis player Petra Kvitova has won the Karen Krantzcke Sportsmanship Award for the eighth time in her career and seventh consecutive year at the WTA year-end tournament and player awards in Florida.

The award is voted by fellow players and is "granted to a player who conducts herself in a manner fitting of a professional sports figure and observes the rules of fair play, shows respect for others and is gracious on and off the court".

Upon receiving the award, two-time Grand Slam champion, 29, said: "Receiving this award for the eighth time makes me very proud and means so much to me.

"Being recognised by my colleagues for sportsmanship and fair play is an honour as I always pride myself on treating my opponents with respect."

She added: "I hope to inspire the future generations to love the sport of tennis as much as I do."

The award was introduced in 1978 and previous winners include some of the greats of the women's game including Evonne Goolagong-Cawley, Chris Evert and Elena Dementieva.

Craig Tyzzer, coach of world No 1 one Ashleigh Barty took home the WTA coach of the year award in just its second year. This award is not just for coaching successes on court but also serving as an ambassador for the sport.

The other big winner on the night was Canada's Gabriela Dbrowski who won the Peachy Kellmeyer Player Service Award. This recognises the work she does to support fellow players as well as wider tennis initiatives on behalf of the WTA.
