Women's Rugby League, Aussie-style: what you need to know for the start of this season

Rugby league's Women's Premiership in Australia gets underway this weekend for only its second season.

The league is made up of four teams - The Brisbane Broncos, St George Illawarra Dragons, Sydney Roosters and Warriors - and in last year's inaugural final The Broncos beat The Roosters 34-12.

The new season will also feature two stand-alone games, one at the Warriors' home against the Dragons in round two and the other between the Dragons and the Roosters in round three. The success of these matches will decide whether the women's league have more stand alone matches in the future.

Round one sees defending champions Broncos up against Dragons at the Bankwest Stadium on Sunday. Coverage will be on Fox Sports and Sky NZ, kick off at 2.05 pm.

The other game between Roosters and Warriors will take place on Saturday at AAMI Park with a 3.05 pm kick off.

The grand final is on October 6 at the ANZ Stadium -  a double header with the men's NRL final.

Isabelle Kelly, last season's star for the Roosters, said: "The girls who were here last year have really tried to drill it into the new players that it's not an easy competition and you need to hit the ground running straight away."
