England rugby player Zoe Aldcroft has said the Red Roses are looking ahead to the World Cup with the belief they can win the competition.

Aldcroft was a part of the squad in 2017 who made the final, where she broke her foot and played the entire match in pain.

England fell short to New Zealand three years ago and are hoping to enact revenge on the hosts of the 2021 tournament.

Aldcroft is a part of the Six Nations squad, which is half way through the competition, but admits England are already looking ahead to next year.

Speaking to The Scarborough News, she said: “I think everyone’s ambition is to bring back the World Cup trophy.

“That is what we are working for now and every session is building towards that.

“We have always got to have that ambition to win the World Cup."

Aldcroft is one of England's contracted players, meaning she is a full-time athlete.

But she revealed in her latest interview that she never dreamt of becoming a professional player when she was younger.

“It is amazing now that I am here as a professional player, I never thought about it when I was playing as a little girl," she added.

“It is really good to see how quick the women’s game is growing, especially in the north because it is quite a rugby league and football-dominated area."

England will play Wales next up in the Six Nations on March 7.
