Exeter Chiefs beat Newcastle Falcons in invitational game as they bid for spot in Premier 15s

Exeter Chiefs beat Newcastle Falcons 27-10 as the teams bid for a spot in the Premier 15s.

The Falcons struck first with a try from Emily Oliver in the opening five minutes. The Chiefs were quick to hit back with a score from Garnet Mackinder.

The hosts' fullback Georgia Cutt struck again but the try was the last score of the game for the Falcons.

Chiefs' Charlie Budge and Ebony Jerries added two more tries just before half-time to put them ahead for the first time in the match.

Jeffries then scored two more in the second half to secure a hat-trick and her side's win.

Both teams announced their tender to enter the top flight league of women's rugby recently.

The Rugby Football Union also audited the league as it stands and announced that the bottom four teams must re-tender for the next three seasons.

Chiefs, Falcons and Sale Sharks all announced their bids for a spot and so sevens teams are vying for four positions.

The selected teams will be announced later this year.
