Scotland's head coach has sights set on Rugby World Cup spot

A spot at the Rugby World Cup in 2021 is the main target for Scotland's squad says head coach Philip Doyle.

The side finished last in this year's Six Nations with just one point, in comparison to champions England's 28. In the next few weeks the women are due to tour South Africa and then they will have the 2020 Six Nations early next year as a "bedding-in period" according to Doyle.

The head coach replaced Shane Munro in April and is confident the side can reach the World Cup.

The 54-year-old said: "I wouldn't be here if I wasn't confident they can progress under my leadership.

"The Six Nations is vitally important to development but all the focus is going down to World Cup qualification."

Doyle has a successful record after he led Ireland's women to four World Cup finals and a grand slam title.

The Irishman continued: "We don't have to peak now but come next September, that's when we have to be at our best."
