Scotland star Eve Muirhead 'gutted' as World Women's Curling Championship cancelled

World curling champion Eve Muirhead says she is gutted after the World Women's Curling Championship was cancelled due to the coronavirus.

The event which was set to take place from March 14-22 in Canada will now see the World Curling Federation review Olympic qualification ahead of the Beijing Winter Games in 2022.

The two-time European champion wrote on Twitter: "Gutted. Respect the decision, thoughts are with those effected by the virus."

World Curling Federation President Kate Caithness said: "It’s with regret we’re announcing it is no longer possible to run this world championship.

"However, the safety of our athletes, officials, staff and supporters is paramount which we cannot guarantee with the fast-evolving nature of this worldwide situation."
