Scottish women’s football to begin 2020/21 season in October

Scottish Women’s Premier League football is set to restart in October.

The 2020 season had just started before it was suspended on March 15 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The original season has now been declared null and void and clubs for the 2020/21 season will remain in the same leagues, it has been announced.

Championship leagues will also begin on the same date and all women’s football will conclude by May 2 next year.

The League Cup competition is also set to take place in May and June, but there will be no Scottish Cup competition.

Scottish Women’s Football chair Vivienne MacLaren said: “It was imperative that we continued to maintain the momentum generated prior to lockdown and we believe the new 20/21 schedule will allow us to do that.

"We’d like to thank all our key stakeholders for their commitment and involvement in our consultation discussions over the past 4 months, which has led us to a positive outcome for the girls’ and women’s game”.

SWF have also revealed an enhanced broadcast agreement with BBC ALBA which is set to show double the number of matches live during the season.

A complete fixture list will be released on August 21.
