Seb Coe backs Britain's golden girls Dina Asher-Smith and Katarina Johnson-Thompson to be a success at delayed Tokyo Games

President of World Athletics Seb Coe says both Dina Asher-Smith and Katarina Johnson-Thompson will be able to adapt to the Olympic Games being postponed.

The Tokyo Games are now set to begin on July 23 next summer and Coe is confident it will not phase Great Britain's golden girls who both became world champions in Doha last year.

Asher-Smith, 24, won 200m gold and set a new British record and Johnson-Thompson, 27, did the same after she won heptathlon gold.

Now both face an extra year's training, but Coe is not worried about them.

He said: "I hope that both Dina and Kat are at that point in their career where this disruption really doesn’t impact too dramatically on them.

"I don’t know that. But what they have both displayed to me, which is the absolute crucial asset for any athlete that’s got to the level they have, is resilience.

"I don’t minimise the impact this disruption will have. I guess there will be some athletes thinking they’re in the sweet spot of their career and another year may treat them unkindly.

"But I think the resilient athletes are going to manage their way through this."

Both athletes have been sharing some indoor training on social media: "Now, more than ever, we are one team. #playinside #playfortheworld"
