S.L. Benfica have announced the signing of defender Matilde Fidalgo.

The 26 year-old has joined from Women’s Super League side Manchester City where she made five appearances during the 2019/20 season.

The Portuguese international will now compete on home turf in the Campeonato Nacional Feminino.

She told BTV: "It is a spectacular feeling! I am a Benfica fan, so if I wasn't a fan, it was already a dream to be here. Now, as a player, I couldn't be happier.

"I thought about going back to Portugal and, for me, it made perfect sense to come to Benfica because it is the best club in this country. I want to be in what I believe is the best project.

“It is not I need to be a Benfica player to be aware of the size of Benfica and the impact that the Club has, not only in Portugal, but all over the world.”

Fidalgo represented her country at under-19 level before making her senior debut in 2013 where she has since earned 43 caps.
