Suncorp Super Netball announces change to schedule due to Queensland border restrictions

Suncorp Super Netball have been forced to change the schedule ahead of the season-opener this weekend due to Queensland border restrictions.

The league is set to begin on August 1 after being postponed for two months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ahead of the weekend, two matches were to be played in Sydney and two in Queensland, but this has now changed.

West Coast Fever and the Adelaide Thunderbirds were set to head to Sydney for the opening round, but will now meet on August 1 at Queensland's Nissan Arena.

GIANTS Netball and NSW Swifts will follow and will now go head-to-head on August 2 at the same venue.

The season will still start with a Queensland derby between the Queensland Firebirds and Sunshine Coast Lightning in Brisbane on August 1.

The Melbourne Vixens and Collingwood Magpies will play in the afternoon on August 2.

Suncorp Super Netball CEO Chris Symington said: "The league has understood from the beginning that this season would need to be flexible to ensure we’re able to carry out a full 60-match competition and we have created a system and fixture to deal with the uncertainty of this health emergency.

“The health and safety of all players, officials and support staff is paramount and by moving all scheduled matches to Queensland this weekend and beyond, we’re ensuring this safety, along with the sustainability of the season.”
