Surfer Beth Hamilton announces return to World Surf League after giving birth to second child

Surfer Bethany Hamilton has announced she will attempt to qualify for the World Surf League for the first time since having her second child.

The 30-year-old took a break from competing in 2018 to give birth to her son, Wesley, but has now stated she's firmly focused on getting back on the board.

Speaking to ABC, she said: "This year all of my focus is on competing, I want to thrive on the world tour.

"I have a lot of work to do all the girls on the tour are surfing insane so there's no room for error."

Hamilton competes alongside able-bodied surfers despite losing her arm in a shark attack aged 13.

"If I thought of myself as disabled I wouldn't be where I am today," she added.

"My surfing is at the level of the best of the best so it's only natural I compete against the best of the best."
