British tennis star Heather Watson reaches Mexican Open final

British tennis player Heather Watson is through to the Mexico Open final after beating Wang Xiyu in straight sets.

In beating the 18-year-old 6-4 7-6 (8-6), she opened up the opportunity to win her first WTA title since she claimed the Monterrey Open in March 2016.

The British No 2 will play Canada's Leylah Fernandez in her fifth tour final.

Fernandez beat the tournament's wild card, Renata Zarazua, 6-3 6-3 to reach the final.

Watson is the first British player to reach the final in Mexico and if she is victorious she will move into the top 50 of the world rankings for the first time in four years.
