Johanna Konta is out of the WTA Finals after announcing she will not play in Asia tournaments

Johanna Konta will not qualify for the WTA Finals later this year after it was announced she is skipping all the autumn tournaments in Asia.

She was scheduled to compete in the China Open in Beijing at the end of September, but had to withdraw because of a 'slight knee pain'.

The WTA Finals are contested between the top eight-ranked women's players, which Konta will now not be able to break into before the event at the end of October.

However, the 'Elite Trophy', which is eligible to players ranked ninth to 19th, is an event she will likely still qualify for because of her current number 11 ranking.

Konta's 2019 campaign saw her reach the quarter-finals of the US Open and the semi-finals at Roland Garros.

But she failed to improve on her career-high ranking of world number four which she achieved in 2017.
