Johanna Konta shocks Karolina Pliskova to reach the US Open quarter-finals for the first time

Johanna Konta claimed her biggest win since Roland Garros to move into the quarter-finals of the US Open for the first time in her career.

The British number one fought back from a set down to beat third seed Karolina Pliskova 6-7 (7-1) 6-3 7-5.

After being outplayed in the first set tie break, Konta broke the Czech three times in the second to force a decider.

And despite both players being able to dictate on their serve as the match reached its finale, the Briton was able to find a crucial break at 5-5 and capitalised on it to book her place in the last eight.

It is only the second time in her career that Konta has managed to defeat Pliskova, having already been beaten by the world number three at the Rome Masters earlier this year.

She will now face either Elina Svitolina or Madison Keys for a place in the semi-finals in New York.
