Judy Murray calls for delay to restart of competitive tennis

Tennis coach Judy Murray has suggested that competitive tennis should not return until 2021 in order to make it a level playing field.

Murray, 60, said: "We should just park it and start again at the beginning of next year, almost like a clean sheet.

“That would be fairer to everybody. It feels to me that until there's a vaccine, I don't think you're going to get a full complement of players anywhere.”

A decision is expected to be made on Monday regarding the fate of the US Open which is currently scheduled to start in August.

While the ATP Tour is currently postponed, Judy’s son and champion doubles player, Jamie, has organised the Battle of the Brits event which will take place at the end of June.

It sees some of Britain’s top men, including brother Andy, take to the court in singles and doubles at a closed-door tournament at the National Tennis Centre from June 23-28.

The event will follow a round robin format, with the winners and runners up from each group progressing to the semi-finals and final in both doubles and singles.
