Konta crashes out in first round of Canadian Open

Johanna Konta was beaten in the first round of the Canadian Open, 6-3, 6-2 by world number 34 Dayana Yastremska.

The British number one broke her Ukrainian opponent early in the first set but then immediately relinquished her advantage in the following game.

The 28-year-old, who reached the semi-finals at Roland Garros earlier this year, then failed to hold her serve at 3-4 and went on to lose the first set 6-3.

Konta regained her composure and started the second set well, but failed to take advantage of two break points when up 1-0.

She was then broken twice in the middle of the set, leaving her a mountain to climb if she was to claw her way back into the match.

And despite saving five match points in a mammoth final game, Konta again missed two chances on break point and eventually lost the match in straight sets.
