Magda Linette beats Leonie Kung to secure second career WTA title at GSB Thailand Open

Poland's Magda Linette defeated teenage prospect Leonie Kung in straight sets to win the GSB Thailand Open.

The 28 year-old clinched her second WTA title with a 6-3 6-2 victory in one hour and 17 minutes.

After watching three break points go begging, Linette eventually broke Kung midway through the opening set and closed it out to leave the 18-year-old Swiss with a great deal of work to do.

And Kung, who was playing in her first WTA Tour final, then began to unravel in the second set as her more experienced opponent started to overpower her.

Linette broke twice and won five of the six opening games in the second set to put the match out of sight.

After the match, a jubilant Linette said: "It was so tough today, I had to keep it together to the very end.

"I knew I need to be the one leading the game. I knew I have to be really aggressive and I had that confidence from the matches before and I'm really glad that I managed to do what we planned with my coach."

Meanwhile, Kung, who was the big surprise of the Thailand Open in her run to the final, was positive despite her defeat.

She added: "I'm just trying to build up my ranking even more and play day by day and just have fun and enjoy on court."
