Naomi Osaka wins China Open in comeback victory against Ashleigh Barty

Naomi Osaka has won the China Open against world number one Ashleigh Barty to continue her stellar form.

The Australian Open champion beat the French Open winner 3-6 6-3 6-2 in a comeback victory that saw momentum changes in each of the three sets.

The world number four extended her winning run to 10 matches, following her victory at the Japan Women's Open two weeks ago.

In a relatively even first set, one game had the most significance on its outcome. Osaka served three double-faults to hand a break and the 34-minute set, to the world number one. Barty and Osaka had 10 and eight winners respectively, but it was the 14 unforced errors that cost Osaka.

The roles were then reversed as in the second set Barty become more erratic and Osaka was more solid winning 67 per cent of points on her second serve.

Going into the decider, both players had brilliant three-set records behind them. Barty has this year won 17 matches that lasted three sets and lost just four, while Osaka has won 15 and been defeated just three times.

But the momentum was clearly on Osaka's side and she took full advantage by breaking her opponent in the opening game of the third set. Barty saved further break points in her next few service games but she could not get back on level terms.

Eight straight points from Osaka saw her break Barty to love and despite failing to convert her first match point, she outlasted Barty on the second match point to seal the win.
