Wimbledon champion Simona Halep storms into semi-finals at the Dubai Championships

World No 2 Simona Halep has booked her place into the semi-finals at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

She beat Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus 3-6 6-2 6-2, turning the tables on the last time the pair met, when Sabalenka won in straight sets at the Adelaide International quarter-finals last month.

Top seed Halep broke the Belarusian's serve to lead 3-1 in both the second and third sets.

And her serve remained strong as in her last eight service games she was only taken to deuce once.

In the final she didn't face a single break point and landed 71 percent of her first serves.

The Romanian will now face American Jennifer Brady in the semi-final today.

Of her next opponent, Halep said: "It's good to be in the semi-finals again here. I love the conditions. I love playing in Dubai. I just want to enjoy, to take it as an opportunity to win another match. I know it's going to be tough. We played in Melbourne, and it was not easy.

"I think she's got a lot of confidence during these matches. She's winning against tough opponents and top players. She has a strong game. Her forehand is really good. She improved in the backhand.

"It's a tough one, but I'm ready to play it. Hopefully I can do my job."
