Three-time World Cup winner Laura Marsh retires from all forms of cricket, aged 33

Three-time World Cup winner Laura Marsh has announced she is retiring from all forms of cricket, aged 33.

The spin bowler called time on her international career at the end of 2019 but had still planned to play in The Hundred this year.

But now the inaugural edition of the competition has been cancelled due to coronavirus, Marsh felt it was the right time to say goodbye to the sport.

In a statement on Twitter, she said: "I have made the decision to retire from all forms of cricket.

"With the cancellation of The Hundred competition this year, I feel that it is the right time to hang up the boots. I want to say a huge thank you to all the teams and organisations I have represented over the years.

"I owe a huge amount to both Kent and Sussex for the role they played in my development as a player.

"Big thanks also to The Surrey Stars, Sydney Sixers, NSW Breakers and Otago Sparks. Every team I played for developed me as a player and a person and I am fortunate to have made some lifelong friends and memories over the years.

"I am excited for the next chapter and look forward to giving back to the game that has given me so much."

Marsh won both the ICC Women’s World Cup and World T20 with England in 2009, finishing as the leading wicket taker in the 50 over format with 16.

And she had more success with the national team eight years later as England claimed the World T20 title once more in 2017.
