Figures from the world of racing and beyond have reacted to the death of motor-racing legend Sir Stirling Moss.

F1 commentator, Martin Brundle, called Moss 'a mighty racer and gentleman', adding 'he had a press on style on the track and in life'. 

"Remarkable man. Survived the most dangerous era of motorsport and died today aged 90. 

"He had such great stories to tell, and it was a privilege to know him," he said.

Motorsport UK wrote: "Sadly we have lost a great of our sport."

They dubbed Moss 'a real all rounder’ and 'our 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award winner'. 

"RIP Sir Stirling Moss. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time."

The All-female W Series also shared their tribute on Twitter, writing: "All at #WSeries are saddened to hear that Sir Stirling Moss has died.  

"The word legend is used often, but it is entirely appropriate for a man and racer like Sir Stirling. 

"Our thoughts are with his friends and family."

Williams driver George Russell said it was a 'shame' he only met the legend a few times but could 'understand why he was so highly respected'.

Members of the wider sporting community also paid their respects.

Frank Bruno tweeted: "I am very saddened to hear the passing of Sir Stirling Moss. 

"He privately supported me over many years and was an amazing driver in his time, he will be greatly missed. 

"My thoughts are with his family and all that had the pleasure of knowing him #RIP."

Ex Formula One and Le Mans winner, Johnny Herbert said: "Sad sad news that legend Sir Stirling Moss has passed. World Champion in all our eyes."

British racer, and winner of the Sports Personality of the Year Helen Rollason Award, Billy Monger referred to the driver as a 'legend' and shared a photo of him.
